Know more about Alan’s role within the Belgian Health Insurance system.

Updated over a year ago

👉 Today, health insurance in Belgium is organized around two pillars:

  • Public coverage, which reimburses you a fixed amount through your health insurance fund (mutuality).

  • Out-of-pocket costs, which is the part of the tariff that remains to be paid by you after the reimbursement by the health insurance fund.

💸 At Alan, we reimburse 80% of these out-of-pocket costs (or 100% in the case of hospitalizations).

🧐 For some costs, the legal health insurance funds do not necessarily intervene. For example : osteopathy, acupuncture, psychology, etc. When the treatment is done by a recognized healthcare provider, we will reimburse 80% of what you paid, including supplements charged by non-conventioned doctors. 🙌

It is also possible for you to have a supplementary (optional) insurance with your mutualité/mutualiteit (e.g. for extra dental coverage). In this case, you could be double insured, please check this article.

It is a condition of membership at Alan that you are a member of a health insurance fund. 🚨

Whether Alan reimburses certain costs or not depends on the kind of coverage you have (e.g. hospitalization and/or daily care) and whether our conditions are met.

You can check what's included in your coverage by clicking on the "Explore my Coverage" 📱 button on the home page of the app.
